Melissa & Doug 'See And Spell'

As I have mentioned before, I absolutely love - adore in fact - wooden toys. There is something about the feel of smooth solid wood that just feels homely somehow and brings back memories of my own childhood. Wooden toys are durable, classic and traditional and the few my children have, always get admired whenever we have visitors to our home.

At the moment, Burton is enjoying learning his letters of the alphabet and can spell some words now like his name, which he does using letters from his (wooden!) alphabet puzzle, the iPad and he also pronounces each letter in his name too now. He is also able to recognise small words like 'cow', 'cat' and 'owl' and he has tried to write them too. Therefore, when I was offered the chance to review a product from the Wooden Toy Shop I decided on an item from their early learning range which is specifically targeted at teaching children basic spelling and letters.

The Melissa & Doug 'See And Spell' is such a lovely learning tool. It consists of

and

This early learning game is simple: your child just needs to find the correct letters for the 16 words which have been cut out of wooden boards which also include an image of the object that requires spelling.

Burton loves his see and spell set and asks to get it out of the cupboard almost every day. There are always spare letters so we are able to spell other words too.

I would highly reccomend this game as it makes learning fun and the illustrations and colours make it appealing to young children. It is available to buy from the Wooden Toy Shop for £19.99 and is recommended for age 4 and up, but Burton is almost 3 and he gets on with it just fine.

I would also like to add that the  Wooden Toy Shop  stocks a vast array of wooden toys, and before I was asked to review the See and Spell, I was already aware of this online shop as it is where I bought Burton's train set for Christmas (see here), and the customer service I received was excellent.
