The Vampire Diaries Season 1 DVD Boxset

have to admit that when I saw The Vampire Diaries advertised on the television a couple of years ago, I did think that it would be aimed at the teen market and as it was set around a high school I thought I would be out of touch with the characters and it's storylines. Which is a shame because I do enjoy a good vampire film. Ever since I first saw Brad Pitt in Interview With A Vampire,  I have had a liking for all things vampire and I have really enjoyed the Twilight films which again are aimed at a much younger audience, but hey they are my guilty pleasure and I love
 watching them.

Plus the whole Twilight saga has made vampires kind of cool and hip and very popular and paved the way for programmes such as The Vampire Diaries.

So I started watching The Vampire Diaries and I have to say I was hooked after the first episode and have been staying up way too late each night to watch it. Indeed I have watched the whole of Season One in a week!

For those who aren't familiar with the plot, it is set in modern day America in a small town called Mystic Falls. Elena Gilbert, who, along with her brother, recently lost both of her parents falls for the new boy at school Stefan Salvatore.

Except Stefan is no normal high school pupil because he is actually a vampire who want to get to know Elena because she is a dead (except she is alive of course!) ringer for an old flame of his from 145 years ago. Along with his brother, the rather naughty but nice (in a good looking way) bad boy Damon Salvatore, Stefan is able to lead a seemingly normal life because he is able to be seen in daylight due to a magical ring that both brothers own and wear.

The interesting twist is that Eleyna's doppelgänger was actually a vampire called Katherine,  who turned both of the Salavatore brothers and both men were in love with her. Is Elena a descendant of Katherine?

The programme is based on a series of books by L.J Smith and has helped to be been brought to the small screen by Dawsons Creek screenwriter, producer and director Kevin Williamson. It was first aired back in 2009 and accoding to my twitter friends, season four is due to be screened next month.

Team Damon : Would I mind being having him suck the life out of me??? Hmmm........let me think!!

Now I have to say the as the story unfolds, there are so many twists and turns and co-incidences that could be deemed a little far fetched, but hey it's about vampires so I accept a little poetic licence is inevitable with interlinking so many of the characters. I have certainly been gripped by the events and want - indeed have - to know the truth about Elena's family history and whether or Katherine is still alive. So much so that now I have finished Season One, and its exciting ending, and I am missing my daily fix of the inhabitants of Mystic Falls! I am going to have to buy the next two seasons to watch, and quickly!

The Vampire Diaries DVD box set, released through Warner Brothers, is available to buy from all good stockists of DVD's

I was sent a copy of The Vampire Diaries on DVD by Warner Brothers. All thoughts and opinions on the show are my own, as is my choice in Salvatore brothers!!
